Soroptimist was chartered in 1921 in Oakland, California, at a time when women were not permitted to join service organizations. Our name, loosely translated from the Latin, means best for women. Today, we have about 30,000 members and supporters in countries across North America, Latin America and the Pacific Rim. We are a part of one of five federations that make up Soroptimist International, which has clubs in more than 120 countries throughout the world.
A Soroptimist is a leader in her community. She believes that by joining with other women and engaging in awareness, advocacy and action in the service of her community and society, she can make the world a better place for all.
About Soroptimist International of Chilliwack
Advocating in Chilliwack since 1935
Founded in 1935, Soroptimist Chilliwack is one of the longest standing charitable organizations working within the community to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.
While the organization has a global outlook relating to issues of gender equity, equality, and empowerment, the most invaluable work is focused on supporting women here in the Fraser Valley. Through programs such as Live Your Dream, Dream It Be It, and Heather’s Hope Chest, members of the Chilliwack club are bringing the goals of Soroptimist International to the grassroots level.
Soroptimist Chilliwack offers an opportunity for like-minded women to connect with each other and the greater community through local activism, action, and advocacy.
Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
Women and girls have the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and live their dreams.
